Who and where • Duane Mossman and Yvonne Mossman of Alton and their daughter, Lori Wakefield of Birmingham, Alabama, in Granite Springs, Wyoming.
The trip • The Mossmans, their daughter, her husband and five kids went on an Iditarod dog sled ride in January 2020. After 10 miles of sledding, they stopped at Granite Springs for a swim in the warm springs.
Travel tips • “It is important to book your trip at least six months before you plan to go. It is necessary to be prepared with warm layers of waterproof clothing, hats, gloves and waterproof boots. You have to be prepared for any weather. We had a beautiful, sunny day, but before we got back to camp, the weather turned into a windy, cold snow. We stayed in Jackson Hole, which is close to the Iditarod camp.”
Bring it on home • Egypt
Who and where • Taylor, Karen and Jim Schulz of Ballwin at the Great Pyramid of Giza in Cairo, Egypt.
The trip • The family traveled to Egypt in 2019 visiting multiple historic sites such as the Great Pyramid of Giza, the Sphinx, the Valley of the Kings, Abu Simbel, and the Sobek, Luxor and Karnak temples. Also included in the trip was a Nile River cruise.
Travel tip • “Book a private tour with a reputable travel company. Having a private tour gave us the flexibility to adjust our itinerary and see more attractions because we never had to wait for a large group. In addition, having a private guide was beyond valuable as we learned the detailed history surrounding each site, as well as being taught how to read the hieroglyphics found both inside the pyramids and on temple walls.”
