Britt Reid won’t travel to Super Bowl following car accident

Kansas City Chiefs outside linebackers coach Britt Reid won’t be traveling with the team to Tampa Bay ahead of their Super Bowl LV tilt against the Buccaneers. The 35-year-old admitted that he consumed a couple of drinks which led him to figure in a multi-vehicular accident that injured two children on Thursday night.

“The organization has been made aware of a multi-vehicle accident involving outside linebackers coach Britt Reid,” the team said in a statement issued on Friday. “We are in the process of gathering information, and we will have no further comment at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved.”

The incident wasn’t the first off-field involvement of the younger Reid as he also got entangled in gun and drug charges stemming from a road-rage altercation back in 2007. He eventually pleaded guilty in the case, though his coaching career had yet to begin during that time. His involvement in the case led him to be sentenced to eight to 23 months of imprisonment. Later that year, Reid pleaded guilty anew, this time for a DUI and drug charges which came from a separate incident.

Britt Reid came to Kansas City together with his father Andy back in the 2013 NFL season where he initially served as the team’s defensive quality control coach for a year. He was eventually promoted to assistant defensive line coach of the Chiefs in the 2015 season. Reid continues to climb up the ranks, becoming the new defensive line coach from 2016 to 2018 before becoming the outside linebackers coach from 2019 onwards.

Even without him, the Chiefs are looking to snag their second-straight Super Bowl title against the Buccaneers on Sunday at Raymond James Stadium.
