Furious DoorDash Driver Confronts Customer Over $8 Tip, Storms Away With Food – BroBible

A DoorDash delivery person was not pleased with her tip, so she stole the customer’s food. The crazy part is that there was all of this hullabaloo when the gratuity was perfectly adequate.

An alleged New York DoorDash driver delivered food in Long Island, but then took it back. A Ring doorbell camera caught the moment that the delivery person demanded to speak to the customer because she felt as though her tip was insufficient. The customer gave the driver an $8 tip for the delivery of food, which was in a regular-sized bag.

“I need to speak to you, I don’t think you realize where they’re coming from, so I need to speak to you,” the driver tells the customer through the intercom. “I don’t think you realize the distance that it’s coming from because then you would never actually have given what you gave… so I think you can come and see me face to face.”

“Cause I drove 40 minutes, and it was extremely far and I got it to you early,” the driver grouses. “So I don’t think you realize where you ordered it from.”

The customer responds, “I don’t understand.”

The delivery woman asks, “Do you realize how far it is? Do you realize you ordered from Commack and you’re in Smithtown?”

The customer astutely points out that the drive from Commack to Smithtown is “like 15-20 minutes.”

Google Maps states that the drive is only 12 minutes.

The driver rudely snaps back, “It’s not! You need to try to drive it, I just drove it, it’s 40 minutes.” She then insists the distance is “12-and-a-half miles.”

Google Maps says it is 5.5 miles away.

Even if it was this fake 12-mile distance, at 40 minutes, she would have been traveling at an average of 18 mph down a highway. Is she delivering food on a bicycle?

The customer asks the driver why she accepted the delivery if the two towns are so far apart, to which she responded, “They don’t let us know how far. So I think you need to adjust your tip. To make it right.”

According to Gridwise the driver is lying:

When a call for delivery comes in, the driver sees a guaranteed amount that includes what DoorDash will pay, plus a tip if the customer has paid in advance. The restaurant name, how far it is from the driver’s location, and how far he or she will have to travel to make the delivery will be shown; but the driver only has 30 seconds to calculate if picking up the ping will be worthwhile.

The customer points out that he gave a very reasonable tip of $8 for his order.

“What the hell are you looking for?!” he laughs. “I gave an $8 tip!”

“Okay, I’m gonna bring the food back,” the driver threatens during the confrontation that supposedly happened in August, but went viral on social media on Tuesday.

The customer asks, “Is she f***ing kidding?”

The delivery person then picks up the food and storms off the front porch.

Too Fab contacted DoorDash about the incident, and a spokesperson for the delivery company said they were not aware of the situation.

Etiquette experts, Diane Gottsman and consultant Julia Esteve Boyd, told Consumer Reports that the recommended tip to a food delivery person should be “20 percent of the entire bill or $3 to $5, whichever is higher.”
