How Often Can You Get a Chase Sapphire Welcome Bonus?

Are you looking to collect another Chase Sapphire card welcome bonus? You may need to wait a while.

The Chase Sapphire collection of credit cards are a favorite, especially for frequent travelers. That’s because both cards offer some fantastic perks that can make travel a lot easier. Additionally, both the Chase Sapphire Reserve® and Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card have impressive welcome bonuses.

If you already have one of these cards or have had one in the past, you may be wondering if you can get another Sapphire card and earn the welcome bonus again. The good news is you can, but you’re going to want to keep reading to find out about the restrictions.

Why people love the Chase Sapphire cards

There is a lot to love about each of these travel rewards cards. Each card comes with a hefty welcome bonus offer, but that’s not all. Here are some of the reasons these cards get so much attention:

  • The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card card earns 2 points per $1 on travel and dining purchases.
  • The Chase Sapphire Reserve® card earns 3 points per $1 on travel and dining purchases.
  • Bonus points can be exchanged for statement credit, can be used to make travel purchases through the Chase Ultimate Rewards travel portal, or transferred to airline and hotel travel partners at a transfer rate of 1:1.
  • Points can be redeemed through the “Pay Yourself Back” program for more value as a statement credit in rotating categories through Sept. 30, 2021.
  • Both cards have no foreign transaction fees — for cards that have this fee, it’s typically around 3% of every transaction made abroad.
  • Both cards offer statement credits for Peloton All-Access memberships through Dec. 31, 2021.
  • Both cards earn more points on Lyft ride purchases through March 31, 2022.
  • The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card card offers up to $50 in grocery statement credits within the first year of card membership
  • The Chase Sapphire Reserve® comes with premium perks like airport lounge access through Priority Pass Select, $300 annual travel reimbursement statement credit, and up to $100 every four years as reimbursement for either the TSA PreCheck or Global Entry application fees. Tip: We recommend Global Entry, as it offers more value and also gives you access to the TSA PreCheck line.

Can you get a Chase Sapphire welcome bonus more than once?

You can qualify for this welcome bonus more than one time. However, if you read the sign-up bonus fine print, you’ll see that there are restrictions in place to keep people from collecting the bonus regularly.

First, you can only earn a bonus once every 48 months. In addition, you can only carry one open Chase Sapphire card in your wallet. This means if you have the Chase Sapphire Reserve® card, last got the bonus 50 months ago, and you’re thinking of getting the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, you’ll need to downgrade or cancel the Chase Sapphire Reserve® card first.

This rule is important to remember. You don’t want to apply for another Sapphire card and either get denied or not receive the bonus because your 48-month timeline is not yet up. Before you rush to fill out a Chase Sapphire credit card application, check to see when you last received the welcome bonus. If you’re unsure, you can contact the Chase customer service line by calling 1-800-432-3117.

To receive a Chase Sapphire welcome bonus again, you’ll need to play the waiting game. If you don’t yet meet the 48-month timeline, you may want to consider applying for another credit card or waiting longer before applying. For more help or inspiration, check out our list of top credit cards.
