I-80 closed between Rawlins and Rock Springs due to crash Sunday

CASPER, Wyo —  Interstate 80 between Rock Springs and Rawlins is closed Sunday morning due to a crash, said the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT).

As of 10:32 am, the estimated reopening time is unknown.

“Slick spots, blowing snow and other wintry travel hazards may persist, especially west of Laramie,” said WYDOT Sunday morning as most of I-80 reopened before the crash. 

Fog is expected in some areas through the morning hours, and black ice is affecting other roadways.

Both US 30/287 between Bosler & Walcott Junction and WYO 210/Happy Jack Road have also reopened.

WYDOT is advising no unnecessary travel between Medicine Bow and Clark’s Corner (WY 220) particularly between the north and south junctions of Wyoming Highways 487 and 77. 

There is also black ice on 220 between Pathfinder and Casper. Wyoming highways 232, 235, 270, 350, and 374 are also seeing black ice.

A Level 1 chain law is in effect for WY 430  Between Rock Springs and the Colorado State Line

Under these conditions,  travel can be restricted to:

  • Vehicles equipped with tire chains; or
  • Vehicles with adequate snow tires; or
  • All-wheel-drive vehicles.
