THE TIP-OFF

• Saint Joseph’s returns to action for the first time in nearly three weeks as the Hawks travel to Drexel. The game will be televised locally on NBC Sports Philadelphia, and streamed on NBC Sports Philadelphia+ and FLOHOOPS.

• Thursday’s matchup marks the first meeting between the Hawks and Dragons since a 72-71 Saint Joseph’s victory on December 11, 2016.

• Saint Joseph’s is looking to pick up its first win of the season after opening the year with hard-fought matchups against Auburn and #6 Kansas at the Rocket Mortgage Fort Myers Tip-Off.

• The Hawks fell to#6 Kansas, 94-72, in their previous contest on November 27.

• Sophomore Jack Forrest came off the bench to score a team-best 18 points against the Jayhawks, knocking down 7-14 from the field, including 4-8 from three-point range.

• Classmate Dahmir Bishop, who has scored 14 points in each of his first two games with the Hawks,has posted a team-best 53.3 shooting percentage from three-point range (8-15).

• Redshirt junior Taylor Funk enters Thursday averaging a team and career-best 17.5 points per game.

• Redshirt senior Ryan Daly, who led the Hawks in rebounds and assists a season ago, currently leads SJU with 7.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game this year, to go with 16.0 points a contest.

Thursday marks the 58th meeting between Saint Joseph’s and Drexel with the Hawks entering the game holding a 48-9 edge in the series and having won the past six contests. Below are series highlights and notes.

• Shavar Newkirk converted the game-winning three-point play with 6.7 seconds to go, and scored Saint Joseph’s final 11 points, as the Hawks rallied to defeat Drexel, 72-71, on December 11, 2016.

• Rap Curry matched SJU’s single-game assist mark (14) in a 106-98 win over Drexel on November 28, 1990.
