Michigan traveled to Purdue via two charter buses on Thursday afternoon. The program’s typical private plane access is currently curtailed due to budget restrictions within the athletic department. This is life in the times of COVID-19. The Wolverines at least made the journey worthwhile, coming away a 70-53 win on Friday night.
The trip sure feels uncomfortable, though, and it had nothing to do with leg room.
Purdue issued a press release at 5:14 p.m. ET, less than two hours before tip-off, announcing junior guard Sasha Stefanovic would “miss at least the next three games after testing positive for COVID-19.”
The general response: Wait, what?
Purdue played at Ohio State on Tuesday. Stefanovic played in that game, then subsequently tested positive for COVID-19. Yet, Purdue was still about to take the floor against Michigan for a 7 p.m. tip-off on national television.
