STORRS, Conn. – The third-ranked UConn women’s basketball team (12-1, 10-0 BIG EAST) returns to the road to travel to Marquette (12-2, 9-1) Friday at 7 p.m. ET. The teams will tip on SNY and 97-9 ESPN.
UConn picked up a 94-62 win over St. John’s on Wednesday. Freshmen Paige Bueckers (32), Aaliyah Edwards (22) and Nika Mu¨hl all set career highs in points. UConn’s freshmen scored 75 of the Huskies’ 94 points in the game (80 percent). With Bueckers, Edwards and Mu¨hl in the starting lineup, UConn started three freshmen for the first time since Feb. 20, 1999. Bueckers and junior Evina Westbrook each had seven assists vs. the Red Storm. UConn had 27 assists on 35 field goals made.
Marquette is on a six-game win streak and is coming off a 55-48 win over Georgetown Wednesday. Selena Lott leads the Golden Eagles with 16.1 points per game. Head coach Megan Duffy is in her second season.
UConn is 9-0 all-time vs. Marquette. This is UConn’s first trip to Milwaukee since Jan. 12, 2013.
This week, Bueckers was tabbed to the Nancy Lieberman Award Top 10 watch list while Christyn Williams was named to the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award Top 10.
