Indianola Boys Basketball Travels to Ankeny Centennial | KNIA KRLS Radio

The season is on the line tonight for the Indianola boys basketball team in the second round of district play, as they travel to Ankeny Centennial High School to take on the Jaguars. The Indians advanced after a tough battle with Des Moines Lincoln on Monday evening, bringing a seven game winning streak into the matchup. The Jaguars are 13-4 on the season, and boast one of the top point guards in the state in Jaron Crews, who puts up over 15 points and 5 assists per contest. Indians head coach Brett Watson tells KNIA Sports he talked to his squad after their win over the Railsplitters on Monday about keeping things simple.

“This is going to sound like a cliche, but we really just need to focus on the fundamentals of the game. We talked about how our fundamentals just weren’t good, guarding the basketball, rebounding, taking care of the basketball. This will be one of our toughest tests of the year so we need to be much better fundamentally.”

The game tonight can be heard live on 94.3 KNIA, with Andrew Swadner and Rick Wilson on the play-by-play. Pregame coverage begins at 6:45, with tip-off scheduled for 7pm.

We have to keep this thing going, it’s February now, playoff basketball time, we hope to play our best basketball right now.”

Knoxville Girls Travel To 4A #8 Bondurant-Farrar Tonight | KNIA KRLS Radio – The One to Count On

The Knoxville Girls Basketball Squad will play likely the best team it will face all season as the Panthers travel to class 4A #8 Bondurant-Farrar tonight. Knoxville is coming off a blowout win over Albia on Tuesday night but will take on a Blue Jay squad that has three players averaging in double figures. Coach Jim Uitermarkt tells KNIA/KRLS Sports they may have learned a little about what some of his younger players can do especially when his team goes up against a team with size or is against a quicker more guard oriented squad.

Uitermarkt:
“I think that’s something we can do going forward, who do we play and what do they have if we have Ashlyn out there or we put Brittany out there.”

Tuesday, freshman Brittany Bacorn started to give the Panthers a little more speed on defense against a guard heavy Albia. Tonight’s game can be heard live on 95.3 KNIA starting with the pregame at six and the tip at 6:15.

Indianola Basketball Squads Travel to Grinnell | KNIA KRLS Radio

With both teams on winning streaks, the Indianola girls and boys basketball squads will travel to Grinnell tonight to compete against the Tigers in Little Hawkeye Conference play.

The #14 in class 5A Indians girls are currently on top of the conference with a 3-0 record and sport a 7-game winning streak, but sit only a game above Grinnell who has only dropped a conference contest to Dallas Center-Grimes. The Tigers have also faced some of the state’s top teams including Center Point-Urbana and North Scott, with a 5-3 overall record.

The Indians boys are on a hot streak, winning their last two games in blowout fashion, and will look to take advantage of a Grinnell squad that has yet to pick up a conference victory. Indianola head coach Brett Watson tells KNIA Sports his young team still has things to work on, but they are improving every game.

“We want to mature as a group. When we do have practice time, we really gotta work on our deficiencies, things defensively we have to clean up. Our offense has looked good, but we still have work to do there. We just have to keep getting better each and every game, especially as there are no easy games in the Little Hawkeye Conference. We just have to keep growing and maturing as a team.”

The game tonight can be heard live on 94.3 KNIA, with Andrew Swadner on the play-by-play. Pregame coverage begins at 6pm, with tip-off scheduled for 6:15.
